Choices in Ceramic Cook Top Cookware

24.06.2009 14:39
Having a glass ceramic cook top requires specific cookware be used on it so that the cook top and the cookware can both be protected over the course of time. There are certain issues with a ceramic cook top that do not occur with other types of cooking surfaces such as gas or electric. One of the benefits of a ceramic cook top is that it heats very quickly and is a smooth surface that is said to be easier to clean up when there are spills during the meal preparation. However, there are also sides to a ceramic cook top that can be dangerous to people who are not used to using them, with the extra hot surfaces causing burns if they are not careful.Options in CookwareThere are several options in ceramic cook top cookware. One is that the pots and pans that are used on the surface should not be made with a rough bottom to them since this can scratch the surface of the cook top. Stainless steel pots and pans are usually good choices in ceramic cook top cookware since it is made to withstand high temperatures and can heat up very quickly, which is of benefit when using a fast heating ceramic cook top. There are some stainless steel pans that have some copper in them and these should never be used on a ceramic cook top as cookware since the copper will melt the surface of the cook top and meld into it, ruining the stove top. Glass cookware is also not the best for the ceramic cook top since the glass is not made to be heated very quickly to the temperatures that a ceramic cook top can supply almost immediately. The glass will crack and can shatter which can not only harm the stove top but can also harm the person who is doing the cooking on the ceramic cook top. In addition to taking care to not use glass, the ceramic cook top cookware should not be used when the pan is dry inside of it. Since the stovetop heats up so quickly, the pan that is placed on the stovetop dry can become damaged beyond repair if there is not at least one ingredient in it to cook when the stove is turned on.Unlike other stoves that can use cookware even when damaged, a ceramic cook top cannot be used when it is cracked in any way. Instead, the owners should call a repairman and get the stove fixed before trying to make any meals again in the home utilizing the stove top.
